What Can You Do?

Bills will be introduced in the next session of the Alabama legislature to give summers back to alabama's children and their families.

Bills will be introduced in the next session of the Alabama legislature to give summers back to Alabama's children and their families. This is great news for Save Alabama Summers! But our work is just beginning. Our legislators will soon be debating these bills, and it is crirtical that they hear from parents and teachers across the state. Now, more than ever, we need your help!  Without public support, this legislation is unlikely to pass. Even ten or twelve phone calls from parents are enough to put this issue on their radar. Here is how you can help:

  1. Contact your local Representative and Senator and tell them how you feel.. Our legislators welcome feedback and will respond to public demand for change.  If you are unsure who to contact, you can search for your legislators on our web site or use the following link:
    http://www.legislature.state.al.us./misc/zipsearch.html.
Use your address to find your local House Representative and state Senator and ask him to support the bills. Please call both your senator and your representative at home or at work, not in Montgomery. After you talk with them, please email us at
forms@savealabamasummers and let us know what response you received.

Contacting your legislator is the single most important thing you can do to help this cause!

  3. Help us spread the word through phone calls and e-mails about the web site: www.savealabamasummers.org.  We have collected many petitions online, and will present these to our legislators, but we are still far short of the numbers we need to make an impact. Please take a few moments and follow this link to e-mail your friends and co-workers about this site.

  4. Download the Early School Start Date Facts and distribute them to local businesses and to neighbors.

  5. Have your child write a letter to your legislators explaining why summers are so special to him or her. Please send a copy of the letter to forms@savealabamasummers to keep on file. Or mail a copy to:
Save Alabama Summers, P. O.  Box 130577, Birmingham, AL  35213-0577
    Join SaveAlabamaSummers.org

Through the help of parents and teachers like you, we will succeed in getting this important legislation passed to restore common sense to our school calendar!  It is time for Alabama to take back summers for our children and our families.
